A (forced) change of plans

Sunday's plans got changed just a bit. It's amazing what a bunch of snowflakes can accomplish when they work together! The weather report for Yellowstone park wasn't very good, but we decided that at the very least we could hit some of the highlights that didn't require a lot of time outside the car to see. The nice lady at the hotel desk called the park to find out if they had closed roads and she was informed that the East entrance was still open. We drove the hour or so to get there only to be informed that it was closed. Bummer. We did manage to get our picture taken by the park entrance sign:

The drive from Cody to the East entrance was very pretty with the snow clinging to the mountain sides and the trees. The road follows a river and it is quite evident that the snow melt is still providing plenty of water for the river.

Bev spotted this sign and it got us wondering how they administer those fines. "Those deep gashes on your scalp look like bear teeth marks, that'll be a $5000 fine, mister!!"

On the way back to Cody we stopped at the Buffalo Bill Dam visitor's center. The outlet from the dam looked like it was cranked wide open to keep up with the snow melt.

Once we got back into town we decided to spend the afternoon at the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum. This place is packed with information and even though we spent several hours there, we had a hard time viewing everything properly. Katie enjoyed the Indian wing of the museum as she just finished a school session where she learned a lot about native americans.

The museum had several sections, including one related to trophy animal mounts. The girls were glad they were all stuffed animals:

Overall, I'm glad to have the opportunity to visit this museum. I highly recommend it if you have the opportunity.
